This study is aim at finding out the causes of low performance of students in business studies. The instrument used in collecting the required data was the questionnaire; the questionnaire was designed to elicit response, from the respondents. Simple percentage was used for the analysis of the data collected. It was discovered that inadequate school facilities, unqualified teacher in Business Studies, overpopulation of student in Business Studies, lack of relevant textbook in the schools and instructional materials are part of the causes of low performance of students in Business Studies. Having analysed the problem bewildering students of business education, the necessary recommendations that will help reducing these problem were made.
BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
Business studies is one of the component of business subjects taught as integrated subject in a secondary schools it components are commerce, typewriting, shorthand, bookkeeping, and office practice. At the Junior Secondary school level, the subject is taught as a separate subject containing other five subjects.
Aknowledge of business studies will enable one pursue a course in business related course such as shorthand, office practice and typewriting. Such could enhance securing employment in financial institutions like bank and insurance as well as individual from both private and public enterprises.The student choice of business studies in secondary school certificate examination depends on the interest and attitude in the subject and occupational pursuit.
However, there has been a concerned feeding as to why students continue to perform properly in business studies in internal and external examination. Many reasons have been advanced fort his humanity such as whether the teachers are responsible, for their low performances. The research work will address and seek to find solution to the causes of student persistent poor performance in both internal and external examination in business studies.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The degree of importance of a student could be seen by evaluating the goals and aspiration of society. The past records have shown that the performance of student at the secondary school certificate examination in business studies is very poor.It is obvious that a number of factors may have been responsible for thestate of affairs.
The major problems to which this research refers to determining the factors that course low performance and suggest the way out.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The aim of the study is to find out the causes of low performance of secondary school student in Business studies.
It could be specifically answering the question whether the inadequacy of professional qualified teachers or lack of sufficient and appropriate teaching aids and teaching methods are responsible for the low performances in secondary school students in business studies.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Although, the new national policy on education in Nigeria emphasized on business education and other skill subject, business studies at secondary school is not effectively implemented.
It is hoped that the finding of this study will make education authorities to give attention to business education programme. Also the findings and recommendation will provide useful information for the causes of low performance in business studies by business education teachers and principals of secondary schools improving plan for implementing business education programme.
In addition, it will serve as a useful guide to guidance, counselors, parents, teachers and principals in advising the students on choice of future career in the field of business.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The finding of this study will be based on the causes of low performance in business studies in Junior Secondary School in Oye Local Government.
LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The major constant which the researchers faced in the course of this research work centres on the administration of the questionnaire.
Majority of the respondent demonstrated non-challant attitude which affected the research work.
Conclusively the short period of time given to carry out this research work is another problem.
The following research questions were raised for study,
- Does lack of professional qualified teacher affect student performances in business studies.
- Is there any relationship between lack of instructional materials and the performances In business studies
- Does insufficient or absent of textbooks have any relationship with the performance of statements in Business studies,
- Does student interest affect their performance in another subject.
Ho 1 – Is there any significance difference relationship between lack of qualified teacher and the performance of student in business studies
Ho 2 – Is there any significance difference relationship between lack of instructional material and the performance in business studies
Ho 3 – Is there any significance different between inadequate school facilities and lack of instructional material
Ho 4 – Is there any significance different between inadequate school facilities and students performance.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
In order to avoid ambiguity, the terms are used in this study need to be defined so as show their action meaning.
Vocational education is any form of education whose primary purpose is to prepare people for employment in recognized occupation.
Business studies: Is the study of the vocational activities working to the sense of the student on how to be self independent.
Commercial education: it is a discipline that taught in secondary schools. The subjects are business studies, typewriting, shorthand, commerce and accounts.
