ABSTRACT

The study is aimed at investigating the effect of computer based learning effective teaching and learning of English Language. To carry out the study, four  research questions were   reviewed in line with the purpose of the study.  The purpose of the study is to examine the extent of awareness of teachers on the use of computer base learning in teaching English as a second language. The research design for the study was survey design of the descriptive research. The sample size of one hundred and twenty  (120) respondents were used for the study. The respondents were students  and teachers  in three  Government Colleges in Ekiti State,  purposive sampling technique was used to select all the government colleges in Ekiti State. The instrument used for the study was questionnaire.  Descriptive statistic involving  frequency counts and percentages were used to answer the research question.  The findings of the study revealed that the integration of computer into the teaching and learning of the English language will promote individualized instructions and will also go a long way in improving students and teachers alike academically. The researcher recommended that Ekiti state Government should make effort in revisiting the curriculum with a view of incorporating the use of computer assisted instruction in teaching the English language. The teachers should be retrained in computer studies. There should be adequate funding and provision of computers in our secondary schools for use in the teaching and learning process.
