STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Many research findings have established the fact that 50% of adolescents are from broken homes. In the present socio-economic situation, many parents have little or no time for their children. Hence, the way a child is brought up by his parents will have a tremendous impact on his academic performance.
This has manifested itself in the poor performance of pupils in the primary school leaving examinations.

This implies that adolescent would find it difficult to learn if there is any unresolved problems that is troubling them. Also many children that possess ability cannot succeed because they believe that they have disabilities which cannot be overcome.
It is also observed that children from distrusted families tend to have lower socio-economic and educational attainment and also higher rate of instability in their marriage. This study is therefore geared towards examining the effect of broken homes on the child’s learning outcome.
